Wish I had a river...

DutchSkaters
"Dutch skaters on frozens canals in Kinderdjik. After more than a week of cold, an estimated 2.3 million skaters, out of a population of 16 million, have taken to the Netherlands frozen canals and lakes," Michael Kooren, All rights reserved.

"I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on..."

Excerpted from the song "River" by Joni Mitchell

I'm so happy you saw this and liked it, too. It might be a little too Currier & Ives for some people. But for those of us who grew up reading the story of Hans Brinker, this was like reading imagination coming to life.

Chris, Actually I didn't get this from the Times. For my job I get emails from Reuters -- I'm on their enviro list -- & this came in, illustrating global warming, I guess (the canals haven't frozen in 12 years -- once they froze all winter long). I loved it & grabbed it for the blog. Then saw it in the Times. They had improved it... Good photoshoppers at that paper.
